Dragons Den investor Theo Paphitis has given ice skating coach Karen Coombes the £100,000 backing that she pitched for in the BBC programme Dragons Den. Following notification from the council that the Sobell Centre in Holloway was to be demolished Karen used her passion for ice skating in a bid to keep an ice skating presence in the London boroguh.

Karen and her best friend, also called Karen (O’Neill) presented their “ice blade” concept skates to the Dragons after spotting an opportunity for adpating inline roller skates to behave like ice skates but be used without the need for ice!

This huge investment will now make it possible for Karen and Karen to develop their iceblading empire and we wish them every luck in the world!

As soon as they are available we’ll do our best to make them available in our ice skate store!

Tickets are now on sale for the hottest show on ice

Dancing on ice may be coming to a town near you starting on 2nd April the tour starts at Sheffield Arena on April 2nd 2009.  The dancing on ice tour then goes onto Nottingham ice Arena, Wembley Arena, Manchester Arena, Newcastle Arena, Birmingham National Indoor Arena, the O2Arena in London and finally onto Belfast odyssey Arena on the 4th May 2009.

Celebrities already confirmed are KYRAN BRACKEN, TODD CARTY, CHRIS FOUNTAIN, MELINDA MESSENGER, ROXANNE PALLETT, ZOE SALMON, SUZANNE SHAW, JESSICA TAYLOR and of course this year’s winner RAY QUINN.

Ray Quinn has won celebrity show Dancing On Ice with Donal MacIntyre coming second both performed the bolero piece they were required to perform fabulously but Ray and his partner Maria blew the competition away with their rendition of the famous piece, receiving a standing ovation after their knock out performance.

As Ray accepted his title he said “it’s a dream come true”

So there you have it that’s Dancing On Ice over for another year. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did, see you next year.

It was an emotional and beautiful skate off between Coleen and Donal that finally stopped Coleen’s dream. Both performed well but it was Donal that won all of the judges five votes and took his place in next Sundays final with Jess and Ray.

Coleen performed gracefully and touchingly to what was her wedding song, Shania Twain’s “still the one” but it couldn’t match the pace of the fast and furious routine Donal performed.

Coleen suffered injuries to her wrist and spine during the competition and wasn’t one of the best performers but she was very popular with the viewers something which on occasion annoyed the judges as better people where lost to save her.

Coleen told presenters Holly and Phil “It’s been amazing working with Torvill and Dean and I’ve enjoyed it so much. I’ve tried it on with Chris so many times but he’s not having any of it!” she then took to the ice and skated her lap of honour to rounds of applause.

It has been announced that Girls Aloud will showcase their new single on this week’s Dancing on Ice semi final show.

Cheryl, Nadine, Kimberley, Sarah and Nicola whilst wearing high wire supports, will perform suspended in the air their new single Untouchable.

Performing on the ice below them during the track will be skating legends Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean who will be skating another one of their fabulous routines to wow the audience

The girls will be in the same kind of supports that remaining celebrities Ray Quinn, Donald MacIntyre, Jessica Taylor and hopefully Coleen Nolan will be performing in during their semi final flying routines.

With all this it’s looking like an extravaganza of a show is planned.

For the second week in a row Dancing on ice Celebrity Coleen Nolan has suffered a serious injury, the loose women presenter and mirror columnist may have to give up on her dream and leave the competition before the semi final show on Sunday.

Coleen 43 dislocated a rib whilst in a safety harness during a practice performance of a flying routine, the rib then pressed into her spine putting her in extreme pain and discomfort. Coleen was taken from where the incident happened to the accident and emergency department after physiotherapists couldn’t help relieve her pain. Due to being terrified of needles the star refused painkilling injections and only had gas and air.

Coleen’s spokesperson said “It doesn’t look good for her ice dream”

“She’ll be heartbroken if she has to pull out. We’re all just keeping our fingers crossed she’ll be fit enough but it’s not looking good.”

Last Sunday Coleen skated with a fractured wrist which she injured during the week’s practice sessions, she is at the moment due to perform in this week’s semi final show on ITV1
